Johannesburg Pride marches for LGBTQ+ Ugandans after anti-gay law passed
[Collection]Over 20,000 people marched through Johannesburg in support of LGBTQ+ communities in Africa who face criminalization and cannot openly express their identities. The parade was led by a Ugandan man who had fled his country after being arrested for being gay. The march aimed to raise awareness for LGBT rights in Africa, particularly in Uganda, where the death penalty for homosexuality was introduced in May. South Africa, in contrast, legalized same-sex marriage in 2006 and is the only African country to have done so.
