Spanish clergy sexually abused over 2,00,000 children, probe estimates

The report, which surveyed over 8,000 people, found that 0.6% of Spain's adult population said they had suffered sexual abuse by members of the clergy as children. Including abuse by lay members, the percentage rises to 1.13%. The commission also interviewed 487 victims who highlighted the lasting emotional impact of the abuse. The report criticizes the Catholic Church's response, calling for the creation of a state fund to compensate victims.
