Finland to place barriers on Russian border at midnight to stem migrant inflow
[Collection]
Finland will close four of its nine border crossings with Russia in an effort to stem the flow of asylum seekers. The Finnish Border Guard will place barriers on these crossings to prevent entry. The decision comes after a sudden rise in the number of asylum seekers crossing the eastern frontier. Asylum seekers will now only be allowed to hand in their applications at two northern border crossings. Finland has accused Russia of deliberately directing people towards the border, a claim which Moscow denies.
