Member states can ban religious symbols in public workplaces: European Union top court
[Collection]The European Union's top court, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), ruled that a public administration can ban staff from visibly wearing any sign that reveals "philosophical or religious beliefs" to create a "neutral administrative environment". The ruling came in response to a case in Belgium where a woman was prohibited from wearing an Islamic headscarf in her workplace. The court stated that the prohibition is not discriminatory if applied to all staff in a general and indiscriminate manner.
