Russian poet receives 7-year prison sentence for reciting verses against war in Ukraine
[Collection]A Russian poet, Artyom Kamardin, was sentenced to 7 years in prison for reciting anti-war poems against Russia's war in Ukraine. Yegor Shtovba, who participated in the event and recited Kamardin's verses, received a 5 1/2-year sentence. The gathering took place in downtown Moscow in September 2022, days after President Vladimir Putin ordered a mobilization of 3,00,000 reservists. The crackdown on dissent in Russia has led to the arrest of thousands of people who have spoken out against the war, and the law criminalizing public expression about the war has been used to stifle any opposition.
